School of Medicine Consumer Reference Group – University of Notre Dame

Would you like to have input into a newly established Consumer Reference Group aimed at people who live with acute and chronic diseases? Researchers at the University of Notre Dame are looking for 12 people to join the new Reference Group to support the following areas of health research.

We need Consumers with a variety of lived experiences, in particular short or long term health issues associated with the following areas of health:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Burns and physical trauma injuries
  • Familial Hypercholesterolemia
  • Pain issues
  • Neurological conditions

About the project/vacancy

Researchers at the University would like to work with you to guide the direction, development and manner of their research and clinical work. Working together, it's hoped this will lead to working towards outcomes which provide high quality services to patients and their families - weaving into, and adding to the latest research.

The new Consumer Reference Group will be led by the School of Medicine

About the position

The University of Notre Dame Australia are looking for 12 health Consumers to provide feedback on research and clinical work

What am I expected to do?

The Consumer Reference Group members will provide advice on a range of research activities. Specifically, members will:

  • Provide insights and review research documents (study summaries, grant applications, Patient Consent Forms)
  • Provide advice on the best ways to recruit participants for studies
  • Help with the translation of study findings and ways to inform the wider community about the department’s research
  • Provide insights into helping improve the experiences of patients’ and families’ affected by such diseases.
  • Provide valuable feedback on planning for future research

What skills or experience do I need?

Notre Dame is looking for people of all ages to join the Reference Group to share their lived experiences as patients, or as carers of people with chronic or acute diseases in the following areas:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Burns and physical trauma injuries
  • Familial Hypercholesterolemia
  • Pain issues
  • Neurological conditions

How long am I expected to be involved?

The Reference Group will run for a minimum of one year and is anticipated to commence in November 2019 . There may be opportunity to continue for a second year. The group will meet four (4) times over the year. Each meeting is expected to take no longer than two (2) hours.

Members may also be asked to review research documents outside of meetings. A maximum of three (3) reviews will be required per person over the year and each review will take approximately one (1) hour

What support is offered?

An honorarium of $35 per hour will be offered for meetings attended. The cost of parking will also be reimbursed
